The Supercars

A supercar is a very expensive and high performance sports car or grand toure.
1. Hennessey Venom F5
Hennessey was a drink favoured by rappers, but its also the name of an American car tuning firm that started building its own supercar the Venom GT in 2010.
but in fact there are lots of tiny companies producing (or planning to produce) insanely fast cars, all of which make your average Ferrari or Porsche seem a bit common.
This, the carbonfibrebodied Venom F5, is Hennesseys latest creation. Read on to find out more about the supercars that are as quick as they are rare.
2. Hennessey Venom F5 290mph plus
As well as a new set of body panels, which are more aerodynamically efficent than before, the Hennessey Venom F5 is set to get a heavily revised version of the twinturbo V8 that features in the Venom GT. The result should be at least 1,400hp, up from the paltry 1,244hp of the current car.
Given enough space, Hennessey calculates the changes mean the F5 should be good for around 290mph. And you know what? Unlike some of the other claims in this gallery, we believe it..
3. W Motors Lykan Hypersport 245mph
The W Motors Lykan Hypersport is the worlds first Lebanese sports car and at ?2.2 million, the Beirutbuilt motor isnt exactly cheap. At least for your money you do get plenty of performance.
A midmounted, twinturbo sixcylinder motor pushes out 720hp, meaning 062mph takes 2.8 seconds, while the top speed stands at a breathless 245mph.
4. Trion Nemesis 300mph
For a start, this cars name Trion Nemesis automatically grants it inclusion to the exclusive hypercar club. Then you learn it has a twinturbo V8 engine that produces 2,000hp. Thats twice that of a Bugatti Veyron. Really.

Trions performance claims stand at 2.8 seconds for the 062mph sprint and 270mph all done. Best of all, the Nemesis has a Predator Mode, which alters the cabin lighting, firms up the suspension dampers, reduces the ride height and liberates a few more decibels from the exhaust.
5. Arrinera Hussarya 224mph
The Arrinera Hussarya is Polands first attempt at a supercar and as debuts go, it really isnt bad. Sharp angles and rakish lines mean it certainly looks the part, but its got a chassis and engine to back the visuals up, too.

Lee Noble of Noble M12 fame has helped engineer the car, so it should handle beautifully. Itll go like stink as well, thanks to the 650hp V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment. The 062mph takes a claimed 3.2 seconds.
6. Lotech Mercedes Benz C1000 268mph
This crazylooking contraption might be old, but its still brilliant and very exclusive indeed. This 1995 Lotec C1000, effectively a Sauber Mercedes Le Mans racer underneath, used a 5.6litre V8 twinturbo engine which kicked out 850hp and 722lb ft of torque, although theres a rumour the Lotec actually hit 1,000hp, hence the name.

Still, the quoted output was apparently good enough for 268mph flat out thats as fast as a Bugatti Veyron SuperSport over 10 years earlier. The 062mph sprint took 3.2 seconds, which is quick enough in anyones book. Back in the mid90s it cost around ?3.4 million to build.
7. Icona Vulcano 217mph
Ignore the somewhat outrageous press picture complete with crazy flames the Icona Vulcano really is a classy car.
Along with the design, the spec details are simply delectable: a 6.0litre V12 combined with an electric motor produces 950hp in total, meaning the benchmark 062mph dash is dispatched in 2.9 seconds, with a 217mph top speed on the cards. A ?2.5 million price tag means it isnt cheap, though.
8. Hennessey Venom GT 270 49mph
The Hennessey Venom GT is technically the fastest car you can buy. It hit a top speed of 270.49mph on a runway in America, eclipsing the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports 267.8mph effort. Besides, that cars top speed is limited to 258mph anyway, to save its tyres from exploding. The new record means the Venom Whatsitsname is the fastest streetlegal production car you can buy.

And the Venom isnt the only member of the double tonne club youve probably never heard of either. In fact, here are some more of them.
9. Tramontana 202mph
The Spaniards arent necessarily known for making superexotic and ridiculously rapid sports cars. Step forward the Tramontana 720hp from its 5.5litre twinturbo V12 means 202mph despite an aerodynamic profile as subtle as a bewinged house brick.
10. Panoz Abruzzi 200mph plus
Batmans weekend runaround is going to divide opinion in the looks department. Panoz do V8 muscle very well so well in fact, that its successful Le Mans cars all used the ol American favourite configuration. The Abruzzi gets a 650hp unit and despite that gaping mouth, should be good for over 200mph.
