1. Do not let the water collect
Do not let the water collect in objects like plastic wrappers, tarps, tires, planter saucers, kids' toys and clogged gutters. Change the water in the birdbaths at least twice a week, and change the water in outdoor pet bowls regularly. For items such as recycling bins, drill drainage holes to prevent standing water
2. Grow the right plants
Mosquitoes detest the smell of plants such as Horsemint, Rosemary, Marigold, Ageratum, Agastache Cana, and Catnipt. Simply crush the leaves to release their scent, or rub them on your skin and clothing for protection from mosquitoes
3. Save your Parsley
You can make your own mosquito repellent by putting crushed parsley in a jar of apple cider vinegar. Rub the concoction on your skin or dip a handkerchief in it, which you can tie around your neck or wrist.
4. Wear light color clothes
It has been observed that mosquitos are attracted towards dark colors, Wear white and light color clothes , this definitely helps.
5. Keep it breezy
Mosquitos don't like to face windy conditions, Sit next to or under a fan running on full speed to keep the mosquitos away
6. Go fluorescent
Mosquitoes are attracted to incandescent lights. For outdoor lighting, consider installing fluorescent lights, which don't attract or repel mosquitoes
7. Garlic is your best friend
When you eat garlic, especially large quantities of it, an invisible layer of garlic oil seeps from your pores and creates a mosquito barrier. If you don't like the thought of eating more garlic, use garlic juice to make a natural repellent
8. Keep too much perfume at bay
Mosquitoes are first attracted by the carbon dioxide exhaled by animals and humans. Once mosquitoes fly closer, body heat guides them onward until their intended prey is in sight. Body odour, perfumes and scented lotions also guide the insects toward their next meal
9. Cure for mosquito bite itch
There are many common household items which can be used to stop mosquito bite itch. Apply any of the following: Toothpaste, Nail polish, Salt, Onion or Hot water
10. Mosquito Repellents
There are many mosquito repellents available in the market, some of the prevalent ones are anti-mosquito sprays containing a chemical DEET or insecticide dispensers, skin ointments, coils for outdoor use, liquid or mats. However be very careful while spraying these in the kitchen as they are highly inflammable
